If you’re PCSing this summer, here’s what actually matters 
There’s a lot of talk about “big changes” to military moves—but for 2026, it’s more of a transition than a complete overhaul. I’m helping my clients focus on what impacts them right now (and what’s coming next).
Here’s what to know for this PCS season -Your move process is still familiar, however:
The Personal Property Activity stands up May 1, but your move will still go through your installation transportation office.• The old contract is gone—but the system is stabilizing
The Global Household Goods Contract (GHC) has been terminated, and moves are shifting back to a government-managed model.• More financial support in 2026
Dislocation Allowance (DLA) increased 3.8%—which can help with deposits, utilities, and getting settled. PPM (DITY moves) reimbursement is back to 100%After last year’s temporary increase, Personally Procured Moves are now reimbursed at standard rates again.
Know your travel numbers. Per diem currently covers:– Lodging: up to $110/night
– Meals & incidentals: $68/day (most CONUS locations)
What’s coming next (and worth planning for):Starting in fiscal year 2027 (October 2026), discretionary moves are expected to decrease.
What that means for my clients:
You may be staying in your next duty station longer That can shift the rent vs. buy conversation in a big way My advice for PCS season:• Book your move early (carriers fill up fast)
• Take photos + keep a detailed inventory before pack-out
• File any damage claims in the Defense Personal Property System within 75 days
